Stevie R, otherwise known by the name of London based Stavros Potamitis, and someone who has been making heads turn in the industry with his own label Inside Out as well as EPs on the likes of Cr2 and Motek, OFF and Union Jack Records. His two originals come with a remix by Monkey Brothers as well as a Dub version.
Opening up the EP is Penelope, a deep and moody house tune with rolling rubber drums. Some dark but angelic vocals add a spine tingling feel and lots of celestial chords and synths all get layered up into a high pressure track filled with epic drama. Monkey Brothers then strip back some of the drama and keep things as a spine tingling deep house tune with a creepy groove that really gets under your skin.
Afolabi then keeps up the late night vibes and spiritual feels with glass melodies and icy hi hats all unfolding over the clacking beats. Some wordless vocals then become dehumanised and uplifting as the warm chord injections prop things up down low. The dub version is a little grittier, with icy slivering grooves underpinned by warm rubbery bass loops. It is functional and filled with feeling and rounds out a killer EP.
